Oh, so that is why Wake On LAN is so neat!
In my quest to do useless and geeky things, I have now decided instead of leaving my MacBook on 24/7, while at work I’ll simply put it to sleep. Then, if for some reason I need a file off of it or want to use it, I can SSH into my server, and issue a wake-on-lan packet using etherwake to the MacBook. Then, the MacBook wakes up, and is available for SSH/VNC/etc.
This way I save the MacBook from wear by stopping motors like the hard drive and fans, as well as being just a wee bit more green by saving power it would otherwise be using.
